Visiting Medical and Osteopathic Students

The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix accepts visiting students from other U.S. LCME accredited medical schools and U.S. COCA osteopathic medical schools who are in their final year.  Applications for acceptance are processed through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO)

The College of Medicine – Phoenix electives catalog and applications open annually on April 15th for the coming academic year.  Applications are processed and offers extended no more than six (6) weeks prior to the start date for each elective. 

Application Components

  • AAMC Standardized Immunization Form.
  • Board Scores (USMLE and/or COMLEX).
  • CV.
  • Liability Insurance (NO LESS THAN $1,000,000/claim and $3,000,000/aggregate).
  • MyClinicalExchange Account Acknowledgement
  • Photograph.
  • Statement of Interest.
  • Transcripts.
  • College of Medicine – Phoenix Policies.
  • Letters of Recommendation from physicians who you have worked with during clinical clerkships.

Some individual courses will require additional documentation such as:

  • USMLE Board Scores for osteopathic medical students.

Application Processing

Once you have submitted your VSLO application, the specialty department coordinator at the clinical site will review and either accept and schedule your rotation or will deny your application. You will receive notification from VSLO once a decision has been made. 

Once an offer is made, the visiting student has two (2) weeks to accept or deny the offer.  Students are responsible for finding housing during the time they are in Phoenix.

Processing Fee

There is a non-refundable $125 processing fee that is due three (3) weeks prior to the start of the rotation.  Payments are made by check, cashiers’ check, or money order; details will be listed in the email.  Electronic and cash payments are not accepted. 

MyClinicalExchange (MCE)

All students that have accepted rotations with the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix must complete MyClinicalExchange (MCE) for credentialing.  There is a $39 registration fee to sign up for MCE.  Additional information will be listed in the email.

Housing

The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix does not provide housing for visiting medical students.

International Students

The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix does not accept international students.
